About #Year12together
The COVID19 Pandemic has provided challenges for many Australians. Year 12 students in their final year of secondary education found it particularly tumultuous. Reduced classroom interactions with other students and teachers and limited computer/internet access have made learning difficult and added to the pressure of exams.
The final year of schooling is also supposed to be a balance of fun and learning. It is supposed to be where we learn to drive, learn how to vote, and become an adult member of our community. Along with celebrating 18th birthdays, cultivating lifelong friendships and contemplating future dreams, the end of the year should be filled with celebrations following the stress of exams.
In 2020, a group of like minded community members pooled their efforts to send out 1700 letters to Year 12 students in their area. This year we want to go bigger!
The #Year12together campaign is a partnership between Help 3095 and Surrounds Facebook Group and the Kindness Pandemic - and is supported by Australia Post. The Campaign is calling on communities across Australia to support as many Year 12 students as possible. We want them to know we are in this together.

You are not alone - Letter writing campaign
Following its success in 2021, the Help 3095 and Surrounds Facebook Group have again set up a letter writing campaign to send handwritten letters of support and encouragement to Year 12 students within their local government area. There are two options to participate in this project.
Option One – Nominate a single student
Option Two – Involve your local high school
Option One – Nominate a single student
- Write at least one letter and nominate one person
- Send your letter (more if you can) along with one stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Year 12 Letters, PO Box 500 Eltham Victoria 3095
- We will pop a random letter into the envelope and send it back to your nominated student. Your letter will be used to send to another student in a different area.
- Please check the basic guidelines listed below or email us with questions: [email protected]
Option Two – Involve your local high school
- Check our master list to see if the school you would like to involve is already on the list
- If not, then make contact with a local high school - through parents and teachers and ask if you can send them letters and check how many Year 12 students they have
- Let us know so we can add the school to the master list, along with your contact details for others who might like to help
- Hand write the letter; it’s so special to receive a handwritten letter
- Check letter templates below for examples of content
- If you have a large volume to write; check your local Council, Rotary or Lions Club to help spread the word
- Deliver the letters to the school - or to a Year 12 student you know - PLEASE check COVID restrictions with the school before you deliver them
- Share your letter to the Help 3095 and Surrounds Facebook Group and the Kindness Pandemic Facebook
- If you receive a letter, please tell us what it was like - it will help to encourage others

Buy a coffee for a student
Hospitality venues have struggled over the last 18 months so any initiative that will help them as well as our students is a bonus.
- Approach a café that is close to the school. Speak to the owner/manager about setting up a Pay It Forward system specifically for Year 12 students
- The specifics of the system will depend on the café, it is important to note that some cafes may not want to participate so try not to nag them
- Let others in your community know what you are doing so they can buy a coffee. Advertise through the school newsletter, social media etc. We can email you a poster to display if you are interested.
- Share with the Help 3095 and Surrounds Facebook Group and the Kindness Pandemic Facebook group.
