About #TheKindnessJar

My name is Malloy and I'm 86. I'm in hospital because I fell and broke my femur. I've been a bit flat because of COVID19 and because I can't do what I want to do and because I am in pain.

I started #TheKindnessJar because I need to focus on the good things and the good people in my life - and because Catherine told me it might help. I'm going to write a note about kindness every day for a month. I want to feel more hopeful about my future (which changed since the fall) - that's why I'm doing the jar. Maybe the jar will also help you to feel hope; you can do it with me.

You can read more about my story here.

How to participate

  1. Take an empty jar
  2. Make a label that says: The Kindness Jar
  3. When you experience kindness - write it on a piece of paper and put the paper in the jar
  4. When you do an act of kindness - also write it on paper and put the paper in the jar
  5. When you are feeling a bit flat - empty the jar and read the notes, to remember the kindness that there is in the world and to remember that it is going to be okay
  6. Keep writing the notes for a month - to help make it a habit (you don't have to stop)
  7. Please share your notes with the Kindness Pandemic to help give other people hope.

Other ideas

Fill the jar every evening as a family - help children reflect on kindness in families and the community. Pin the notes to your fridge. Make a collage or a patchwork quilt. Share photos.

Here are some of the notes I've put in my jar. I would love you to share yours. You can email them to the Kindness Pandemic at: info@thekindnesspandemic.org or share them into the Kindness Pandemic Facebook group - if you use the hashtag #TheKindnessJar that will help me to find your post.
